The Tigris and Euphrates
The Euphrates from its origin as the Korausya in the Armenian Highland of Anatolia to its joining with the Tigris at Al-Qunah: the Tigris from the small mountain lake, Lake, Lake Hazar in Turkey to its joining with the Euphrates at Al-Qurnah, thence to the Persian Gulf as the Shatt Al-'Arab, in 40 panels at 1 degree intervals of latitude and longitude, arranged in 5 rows of 8 panels each with the panels containing both the Tigris and Euphrates occupying the center row from column 2 to the joining of the two rivers from the Shatt Al-'Arab in column 6, thence to the Gulf solely as the Shatt Al-'Arab through columns 7 and 8; panels containing only the Tigris begin at row 1 column 3 and continue left to right through columns 7 and 8; panels containing only the Euphrates begin with the split panel in row 2 column 2, as the Korasuya, continuing counterclockwise through 3 panels as the Korasuya and Firat, then continuing left to right through all 8 columns in rows 4 and 5. Major tributaries for both rivers are shown, as well as the oldest and most populous city of the ancient Assyrian Empire, Ninevah, and the modern capitol of Iraq, Baghdad.
